1/14 vs 1/16 RC Cars: Which Scale Sells Better

By Ramii Wang · Founder, HELLAMAX · Updated 2026-08-16

1/14 and 1/16 are the two scales that dominate affordable brushless RC cars. They look similar on paper but behave differently on the shelf and in the shipping container. Here's the distributor's view.

Margin reality

Percentage margin is similar across both, but the absolute dollars are higher on 1/14. However, 1/16 lets you ship more units per carton and per shelf foot, which matters when floor space or freight is the constraint.

Which sells "better"?

There's no single winner. 1/16 is the volume entry — easy yes, great for marketplaces and gift buyers. 1/14 is the hero — the one people remember and come back for. Most stores sell more 1/16 units but make more profit on 1/14.

Our recommendation

Carry both. Use 1/16 as the approachable entry and 1/14 as the demo hero on the shelf. A 60/40 split (1/16 / 1/14) by unit is a sensible starting point, then tune to your sales. Both share many spare parts, so inventory stays simple.
